PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball team fell to Texas A&M-Texarkana in straight sets Friday, dropping a 25-18, 25-11, 25-17 decision at Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
Louisiana Christian (1-11, 0-3 RRAC) stayed closest in the opening set but struggled to convert their opportunities. The Wildcats recorded six kills while committing nine attack errors, allowing Texas A&M-Texarkana (5-7, 4-1 RRAC) to pull out the seven-point win. The Eagles increased the pressure in the second set, hitting .600 with 14 kills and only two errors as the Wildcats finished with four kills and a .000 hitting percentage.
LCU responded with its strongest offensive work in the third set. The Wildcats produced 11 kills, more than their total from the first two sets combined, and limited themselves to four attack errors for a .212 hitting percentage. TAMUT countered by hitting .500 in the set and closed the match with a 25-17 victory.
Holly Rowe led a balanced Wildcats attack with five kills and a .188 hitting percentage.
Vivien Brouillette added four kills on efficient .375 hitting, while
Joie Goodwin also finished with four kills. Brouillette and Goodwin each contributed a block assist, accounting for two of LCU's four block assists.
The Wildcats split their setting duties evenly between
Emma Cother and
Kylie Elmore, who recorded nine assists apiece. Cother also served one ace, while
Natalie Aasen supplied two aces and two kills. The shared production helped Louisiana Christian finish with 21 kills, 18 assists and three aces, although 17 attack errors and 11 reception errors made it difficult to sustain momentum.
Texas A&M-Texarkana finished with 40 kills, 11 aces and a .394 hitting percentage, compared with Louisiana Christian's .048 mark.
The Wildcats and Eagles will close out their conference weekend pair on Saturday with opening serve set for 9:30 a.m. on Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
