WACO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University baseball team swept the Red River Athletic Conference's weekly awards on Monday with
Kade Linn being named the Pitcher of the Week while
Braden Trull was named the Player of the Week the RRAC office announced.
A graduate right-handed pitcher from New Iberia, La., Linn pitched nine innings over the course of two games during the week, picking up a complete game victory over a nationally ranked team coming off a historic win in the process.
Linn started his week with two hitless, scoreless innings of relief in LCU's 7-2, game one win over Columbia International on Thursday, striking out one with no walks.
He was given the start in Saturday's contest against #25 Central Methodist, an Eagle team which had just ended #1 LSU Shreveport's 65-game win streak a day prior, and would not leave the mound until the win was secured. He threw all seven innings against CMU and struck out 12 Eagle batters as the Wildcats picked up the 5-3 victory. He allowed just four hits and three runs, all earned, and walked four more to pick up his first win of the season. This is Linn's first career RRAC Pitcher of the Week award.
Trull, a redshirt junior catcher and infielder from Rosepine, La., got extra base hits in five of LCU's six games over the course of the week.
In Thursday's home doubleheader against CIU, he went 5-for-7 with a double and a home run, knocking in three runs and scoring three times himself against the Rams.
Over the weekend at the Cajun Collision, Trull was 6-for-13 with three doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored. His best performance in Sterlington was in Friday's contest against Hastings where he went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. This is Trull's second-career RRAC Player of the Week award, having previously won the honor of March 11, 2024.
Louisiana Christian (10-2) finished the week 5-1, which included the win over #25 CMU and, later Saturday, a dominant 7-1 win over (RV) Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Those two wins gave the Wildcats four wins over teams which at least received votes in the NAIA's Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll through its first 12 games of the season.
The Wildcats look to keep the momentum going with another full weekend of home games, starting on Thursday as another nationally-ranked team comes to Pineville in the form of #15 Arizona Christian. First pitch of Thursday's contest against the 15
th-ranked Firestorm (7-2) is set for 4 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field.
