WACO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's tennis program is setting a new standard of excellence on the courts that has not been seen at "The Hill" in quite a long time as
Alexandra Cedeno was named the Wildcats' first weekly award winner at the conference level in 14 years by the RRAC on Tuesday morning.
Â
Cedeno, a sophomore from Caracas, Miranda, Venezuela, joins a very exclusive list in the Court Cats' modern era alongside Taylor Henderson (March 2, 2011), Heather Seals (February 9, 2005), and Courtney Joiner (March 9, 2004) as the only student-athletes to get such an honor since 2000.
Â
Against #8 Loyola (New Orleans), she was the only player to win a set outside of the point scorer (
Adjowa-Sika Geli), going down to the wire before succumbing to Avrora Volkova at 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 4-10.
Â
Versus #9 LSU Alexandria, she helped seal the biggest ranked win in program history over the Generals, the team's first ever win against LSUA, recording the clinching point to erase a 3-1 deficit. Cedeno secured the comeback clincher on court number four, erasing a first set loss (4-6) to snag the final two (6-3, 6-2) opposite Gianna Panaggio on top of securing the doubles point with her partner
Patricia Principal Pineda when they bested Nahia Echaide / Joline Roesch by a score of 6-3 on the top flight.
Â
The Venezuelan right-hander is tied with Geli for the best overall singles record in 2025, boasting a winning percentage of 68.8% (11-5) including a perfect 4-0 in Red River Athletic Conference competition and has gone 8-1 (88.9%) over her past nine completed matches.
Â
Head Coach
Alexandra Starkova, Cedeno, and the rest of the ladies from Pineville will look to keep writing new chapters in this storybook of a season when they travel to San Antonio as the fifth seed for the RRAC Tournament, beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. vs. the fourth seed and #25 in the NAIA, LSU Shreveport.
