The Louisiana College baseball team will open play in the 2019 American Southwest Conference Blue Bracket on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in Brownwood, Texas. The Wildcats are making their 11thappearance in the postseason tournament, their first in two seasons, as they take on UT Dallas to open the 2019 tournament.

LC enters the bracket with their best regular season record since they joined the NCAA at 29-10, the most wins in a single season by any team, and are the No. 4 overall seed after posting a 16-8 mark in conference play. They will play the Comets who come in as the No. 5 seed in the first game of the double elimination tournament. The winner of the Wildcats/Comets game will play the winner of the host Howard Payne and LeTourneau on Friday at 1 p.m. The losers of the two Thursday games will face off in an elimination game Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

The Wildcats had a  lack luster start to the season after an opening 6-2 loss at Centenary and three game sweep at Howard Payne to start conference play. It was a comeback win over Gwynedd Mercy in Florida that started the turnaround for the Cats as the victory would spark a string of 15 straight wins, including conference sweep at Belhaven and over then #11 ranked Concordia at Billy Allgood Field. LC lost just two games in the month of March and won 20 of 21 games leading into a road series at Hardin-Simmons.

The Wildcat offense has put up some of their best numbers under Head Coach Mike Byrnes this season with several team records under siege as the season nears its conclusion. They have already established a new record for wins in a season at the current 29, breaking the 2003 team's record of 27, and could become the first team to win 30 games in a season. They have blown by the season doubles record with 97 on the year and have their sights set on breaking seven other team offensive records before things are said and down including batting average, hits, runs, and RBI.

It has been a one through nine attack that has put the Wildcats in the position to make history with eight players batting .300 or better. Senior Dylan Keller, who missed some time due to injury, is batting a ridiculous .444 with 32 hits in 72 at-bats. Junior lead off man Brady Atkins has a .377 averaged with a team best 57 hits.

The middle of the Cat lineup has done plenty of damage as well with Christian Vandergrift, Clayton Noakes, Keelyn Johnson, and Deauton Delgado accounting for 181 hits, 23 home runs, and 138 RBI.

On the mound the two headed monster of Andrew Robinson and Deauton Delgado have helped LC win at least two of three games in six conference series this season. Robinson has thrown a pair of nine-inning complete games this season, including the first nine-inning complete game shutout, and has a record of 8-1 with a 3.08 ERA. Delgado threw the second no-hitter in LC history this season and has a 7-2 record with a 3.77 ERA with three complete games to his credit.

Beyond the two starters the Cat bullpen has done stellar work all season. Phillip Vidrine leads the pen with 18 appearances, three saves, and a 3.34 ERA in 35.0 innings of work. Southpaw Caleb Prejean has been lights out of late with Konnor McDermott and Chevy Emken providing key quality innings over the last few weeks of the season.

In 10 tournament appearances the Wildcats have an 8-21 record and still in search of their first conference title. This will be the first meeting between UT Dallas and Louisiana College in the postseason, the two teams did not play during the 2019 regular season.

Daily tickets for the tournament are $7 for all guests and free for students with I.D. Tournament passes will be available for $12. CASH ONLY. Per ASC policy, pets -- leashed or unleashed -- are prohibited at all ASC championship events. Only certified service animals that are marked, properly trained and leashed are permitted at events.

The winner of the blue bracket tournament will advance to the Gold Championship series best-of-three next weekend at the highest remaining seed.
