Delgado Gets National Team Spot



Add another honor to the list for Louisiana College utility man Deauton Delgado as he earned a spot on the d3baseball.com Team of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. This is the second time in Delgado's career he has earned a spot on the national team, his last coming near the end of the 2018 season.  He is the only Wildcat pitcher in program history to be selected to the weekly team, as he earns his second career nod.

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the seventh Team of the Week of the 2019 season.

Delgado earned his spot among the elite players of the week by throwing the second no-hitter in LC baseball history as the Wildcats swept #11 Concordia at Billy Allgood Field over the weekend. He joins three other starting pitchers across the country on this week's team including Springfield's Brian Johnson who also threw a no-hitter, and Cortland's Zack Durant who threw seven no-hit innings before giving way to the bullpen. Delgado was not the only ASC player to earn a spot on the team as ETBU's Casey Combs took the catcher spot.

On the mound this season Delgado now has a 4-1 record in six starts with two complete games. He leads the team in innings pitched at 33.0 and strikeouts with 29. The no-no lowered his opponents batting average to .193 on the season and he has a WHIP of 1.12 with a 3.55 ERA. Saturday's game was the third straight quality start for the senior, after allowing just one run in his last two outings, both wins, including a 12 punch out game against Iowa Wesleyan.

The Wildcats host Champion Christian on Monday afternoon at Billy Allgood Field before heading back out on the road this weekend for another ASC series at LeTourneauFriday and Saturday.
