PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team peppered the Paul Quinn goal all night, eventually finding a pair of goals in the second half as the Wildcats took a 2-0 victory over the Tigers Tuesday night at Wildcat Field.
Louisiana Christian (2-3) was on the offensive footing all night. The Wildcats took 15 shots in the first half alone, putting four on frame. However, Paul Quinn (0-5) was able to keep LCU off the scoreboard as the two teams went to halftime at 0-0.
LCU finally got its breakthrough early in the second half in an unusual way. Less than three minutes into the second 45,
Aran Hernández Vivar raced in from the left side of the box and rolled a cross right in front of the face of the goal. A Paul Quinn defender, trying to get to the ball to clear the danger, instead knocked it into the net for the 1-0 Wildcat lead.
The Wildcats added some distance on the scoreboard from the Tigers in the 72
nd minute. After winning a corner kick,
Juan Sierra sent the corner into the box where PQC attempted to clear it. The clearance only made it as far as
Manuel Sosa-Villaseñor who got his foot to the ball on the half-volley and smashed it from outside the box into the bottom right corner of the goal for the match's final score.
Sosa-Villaseñor's goal was his first of the season. He took two shots and put both on target.
Hernández Vivar put up eight shots in the contest with three on frame.
Juan Sierra took five shots, two on target while
Moises Rodriguez and
Nico Neira both took two attempts at goal but neither forced action by the PQC goalkeeper.
LCU took 25 total shots in the match, putting nine on frame as a team.
Ricardo Gross (2-3) played the first 81 minutes in net for the Wildcats while
Tyson Cole closed out the final nine. Neither was called on to make a save in the contest as the Tigers were held to just three total shots in the match, none of which were on target.
The Wildcats head out of town for the final time in the non-conference portion of the 2026 schedule on Saturday as the team heads to Conway, Ark. to take on Central Baptist. Kickoff of Saturday's contest against the Mustangs (2-1-2) is set for 3 p.m. at Centennial Park.
