Early Lead Falters as Wildcats Drop Series Finale

LCU Strikes In First Inning But Seven-Run Second Gives #8 OLLU Win

SAN ANTONIO – The Louisiana Christian University softball team took an early lead, but a big inning by #8 Our Lady of the Lake ended any hopes of an upset as the Wildcats dropped the series finale to the Saints 10-1 in five innings Saturday afternoon at the OLLU Softball Field.

Louisiana Christian (13-18, 5-10 RRAC) got a rally going with one out to start the game's scoring. With one away, Addison Bailey was hit by a pitch to get aboard. She moved to second on Myah Talbert's base hit to left, went to third as Cecilia Bookman drew a walk and scored the game's first run as Christina Curtis also watched ball four go by to force her home, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

While LCU worked around a walk with one out to keep it a 1-0 game after one inning, #8 Our Lady of the Lake (27-4, 15-0 RRAC) took advantage of three Wildcat errors in the second which allowed the Saints to plate seven runs, securing the lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Saints added three more runs in the third frame while LCU's lone base runner following the first inning was Madelyn Bourgoyne, who singled with one out in the fifth inning and was stranded there as the game concluded.

Talbert and Bourgoyne had LCU's two hits in the contest while Bookman and Curtis both drew walks with Curtis getting a RBI.

Addison Greak (3-4) started the game and went two innings in the circle for the Wildcats. She allowed five hits and 10 runs, just four earned, with two walks and no strikeouts.

Addison Bailey threw the final two innings without allowing a hit or run while walking one with no strikeouts.

The Wildcats wrap up their six-game road trip next week as they head back into Texas for a three-game conference set with Jarvis Christian, starting with a doubleheader on Thursday. First pitch of game one of Thursday's twin bill with the Bulldogs (1-16, 1-14 RRAC) is set for 12 p.m. at Lady Bulldog Field.
