Wildcats Drop Tight Match Saturday

LCU Puts Five of Six Shot Attempts on Goal but Can't Convert in Loss

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Texas A&M-Victoria Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

Louisiana Christian (7-5-1, 4-3 RRAC) responded to an early Texas A&M-Victoria (8-5-2, 5-1-1 RRAC) finish with three shots in 14 seconds. In the 10th minute, Giselle Laing's attempt was blocked before Isabella Urbaneto forced a save shortly after. Laing followed with another shot on goal seconds later, but that effort was stopped as well. Laing finished with a team-high two shots.

The Wildcats continued creating chances before halftime. Katalina Medina put a shot on goal at the16 minute mark, while Maria White tested the Jaguar goalkeeper in the 38th minute. Both attempts were saved, leaving LCU trailing 1-0 despite a 5-2 first-half advantage in shots and four attempts on target.

Sara Mendivelso replaced Marta Papandrea in goal to begin the second half. Izzy Childs produced LCU's only shot after the break in the 61st minute, forcing another save with the deficit still at one goal. The Wildcats fell behind 2-0 in the 65th minute.

Mendivelso stopped all three shots on goal faced after the second goal, making saves at in the 67th, 77th, and 81st minutes to prevent further scoring. Mendivelso finished with three saves and one goal allowed in 45 minutes. Papandrea allowed one goal while facing one shot on target during the opening half.

LCU put five of its six shots on goal, matching the visitors' total on target. A&M-Victoria finished with eight shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

With the Wildcats already guaranteed a spot in the RRAC Tournament, LCU looks to make its bid for a first round home match in the final two matches of the season, both against teams also trying to improve their tournament positioning. The final week of the season starts on Thursday as the Wildcats head to Shreveport for a date with LSU Shreveport. Kickoff of Thursday's match against the Pilots (8-5-2, 4-2-1 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. at The Jungle.
