Two Second Half Goals Help Wildcats Pick Up Key Win

LCU Now Inside Top-Six for RRAC Tournament Spot After 3-1 Win Over A&M-Victoria

PINEVILLE, La. - Jos Willms scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute as the Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team defeated the Texas A&M-Victoria Jaguars 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

Louisiana Christian (6-7-2, 3-3-1 RRAC) opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a sequence that began with Juan Sierra's corner kick. Matej Motycka's header was saved, but Felipe de Paola tapped in the rebound for his first goal of the season, with Motycka earning the assist. Aran Hernández Vivar added a shot on goal in the 27th minute that was saved, and the Wildcats carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

After conceding the equalizer to Texas A&M-Victoria (6-3-4, 2-3-2 RRAC) in the 57th minute, LCU regained the advantage through another coordinated set piece. Sierra delivered a free kick, Manuel Sosa-Villaseñor headed it on and Willms tapped it in shortly after entering the match. Sierra and Sosa-Villasenor received assists on Willms' fourth goal of the season.

The Wildcats continued creating chances after moving ahead. Hernández Vivar had another attempt saved in the 70th minute, and Sosa-Villaseñor's shot was stopped by a defender in the 71st minute. Sierra provided the two-goal cushion in the 80th minute, converting a penalty kick for his eighth goal of the season after the Jaguars were whistled for a hand ball in the box. He finished with four shots, a goal and an assist.

LCU outshot the visitors 18-12, including 11-7 in the second half, and held a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Willms and Hernández Vivar each put both of their attempts on target, while Ezra Williams contributed three shots, including one on goal. The Wildcats also earned eight corner kicks to the visitors' three, with six of LCU's corners coming after halftime.

Goalkeeper Ricardo Gross played all 90 minutes and made his lone save in the 82nd minute to preserve the two-goal lead. He improved his record to 5-7-2 as the Wildcats limited the visitors to two shots on target.

The Wildcats continue their push for a spot in the 2026 RRAC Tournament into the final week of the season, which starts on Thursday at LSU Shreveport. Kickoff of Thursday's match against the Pilots (9-4-2, 4-2-1 RRAC) is set for 3:30 p.m. at The Jungle.
