PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program recognizes women's tennis'
Elizaveta Mikhailova and men's basketball's
Bryce Weinmunson as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.
Â
Mikhailova, a junior from Moscow, Russia, provided the winning point as the Wildcats took down its first ranked opponent in school history on Saturday, defeating (RV) LSU Shreveport on the road by the slimmest of margins, 4-3. The former Bethel (Indiana) Pilot was the lone singles match to go three sets, but it was the worth every second, toppling LSUS' Lidia Gomez out of the fourth flight by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 final, sealing the dub for the Cats with a comeback effort that also saw her help earn the doubles point by partnering withÂ
Adjowa-Sika Geli on the third line over Maike Tiemersan / Sara Sofia Sanchez (6-4).
Â
Weinmunson, a junior guard from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, stole the spotlight on Senior Night, going nuclear on Texas College's defense to the tune of a season-best 28 points (ten higher than his previous mark), eight field goals (8-of-16, 50%), seven free throws (7-of-8, 87.5%), and five three-pointers (5-of-7, 71.4%) while swiping a contest-best four steals in addition to playing all but a few seconds on the evening.
Â
Tennis will play four matches in a span of three days, beginning with St. Mary's (Texas) on Saturday (noon) and (RV) Our Lady of the Lake on Sunday (11 a.m.).
Â
#6 Men's basketball opens its quest for a conference championship on Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. versus #3 Our Lady of the Lake in the Red River Athletic Conference Quarterfinals.
