PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program would like to recognize football's Levi Hilborn and volleyball's Kierra Jones as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.
 
Hilborn, a junior kicker / punter from La Porte, Texas, flawlessly executed the Sean Payton Super Bowl Special, catching the Langston Lions napping by grounding the ball right into the waiting arms of Brandon Isaac on the second half's opening kickoff, propelling the Cats to a touchdown drive which put the game on ice. The successful onside kick was the first time LCU had done so in six-and-a-half seasons, going all the way back to its American Southwest Conference days when it recovered one since the regular season finale in 2017 when the Wildcats pulled it off versus Howard Payne during a 61-38 triumph in Brownwood. Against the visitors from Langston, Oklahoma, the Texan dropped a trio of punts inside the LU 20-yard line, bombed three kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks, and nailed a 42-yard field goal, all of which were new career-highs.
 
Jones, a senior middle blocker from New Orleans, Louisiana, led the Wildcats in blocks per set (1.00) and total blocks (6) including three solo blocks plus four digs (0.67 p/s) during a pair of sweeps vs. Texas College. Over the weekend, Jones became the program's all-time career leader in solo blocks (42), giving her the career blocking triple crown as the Wildcats leader for solos, block assists (146) and total blocks (188). She also rose on the team's single-season list as well, moving into third for solo blocks (10). In Saturday's match with the Steers, she helped guide LCU to its eighth-best single-game hitting percentage in program history at .300, clinched the team's third consecutive double-digit win season, and tie its longest winning streak in school history at five.
 
Football got its first taste of victory during its five-touchdown blowout of the Lions and will look to keep the party going on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
 
Volleyball has a chance to break the tie by winning its sixth and potentially seventh matches in-a-row on Saturday when they face William Carey at 1 p.m. and Loyola (New Orleans) at 3 p.m. during a tri-match in The Den.
