PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program recognizes baseball's Dylan Beier and women's tennis' Patricia Principal Pineda as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.
Â
Beier, a junior left-handed pitcher from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was critical in keeping the 18th-ranked Mobile offense in hibernation, having now won both his starts in 2024 after a 4.2-inning, one-run gem that saw the former LSU Eunice transfer strike out 3 Rams and allow only four hits including zero walks.
Â
Principal Pineda, a sophomore from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, won all six games she competed in (three singles and 3 doubles) while leading the Cats to their first three-match winning streak since before the 2008 season. The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural CC transfer outscored her opponents by a combined 30-17 in her two first flight competitions and a spotless 12-0 showing in the second flight. In doubles action, the six-footer teamed up with Alexandra Cedeno to more than double-up their adversaries (24-11) from Copiah-Lincoln CC, Hinds CC, and Millsaps with the latter two being true road tests.
Baseball hosts the Louisiana Christian Challenge on Friday and Saturday with a pair of matchups vs. Saint Francis (Indiana) as well as welcoming Southern University at New Orleans to the NAIA baseball scene as this is their debut year.
Â
Tennis hosts Grambling State at noon on Tuesday before its Red River Athletic Conference debut against LSU Shreveport here on "The Hill" at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
