PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program would like to recognize football's EJ Scott and women's soccer's Maria Alonso as this week's LCU Student-Athletes of the Week.
 
Scott, a freshman wide receiver from Alexandria, Louisiana, was incredible at Wayland Baptist, becoming the first Wildcat to amass more than 200 receiving yards in a game since Glenn White had 203 at Lyon on November 6, 2021. He also fell just one reception shy of being the first player with ten or more catches since Canaan Leon's 11 at Belhaven on March 6, 2021. For the afternoon, he logged 259 receiving yards on nine catches while averaging an absurd 28.8 yards per reception, leading the team in all three categories. Out of the balls he hauled in, four of them went for 35 or more yards (71, 47, 46, 37).
 
Alonso, a junior midfielder from Boadilla del Monte, Madrid, Spain, led the ladies in both points (6) & assists (4) while also scoring a goal on five shots, a trio of which were on-target. In Thursday's win vs. Southwest (New Mexico), she became just the sixth player in program history to record a hat trick of assists (3), the fourth-most in a single-game ever by an LCU player and a career-high. On the week, the Spaniard moved into fifth on the program's career assists list (8) & ninth on the team's single-season assists ladder (5) as the Cats went 2-0, winning by a combined eight goals. She tied her career-high of three points in both matches last week and in three of the past four games overall as the club extended its unbeaten streak to four-in-a-row dating back to September 18, the fifth-longest in the history of the Cats.
 
The helmeted men deployed by Coach McLaughlin will try to keep an unprecedented home winning streak alive against the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Women's soccer will reside in East Texas from Thursday through Saturday versus Jarvis Christian and Texas College, respectively.
