PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University athletics program recognizes men's soccer's
Sergio Pita Martin and women's soccer's
Jaycee Woods as the LCU student-athletes of the week as nominated by their respective head coaches.
Â
Pita Martin, a junior winger / striker from Madrid, Spain, scored the team's lone goal of the weekend, recording the equalizer in the 52nd minute against #8 Georgia Gwinnett to give the Wildcats a resume-building 1-1 draw. Â
Â
Woods, a junior goalkeeper from Mount Pleasant, Texas, was named Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, her first career accolade. She was nearly flawless in her first career start between the sticks, holding a Crusader club that averaged seven goals per game against #13 Missouri Valley and #24 Reinhardt to just one score on 33 shots. The five-foot-seven biology major had just one save over 85+ minutes of action coming into the weekend and ended it by adding on another eight saves for a .889 save percentage while also logging her first complete game as a collegian.
The soccer teams host Bethel (Tennessee) in a joint doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with the women starting things off at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
